Welcome to the chair of process biotechnology

The chair of process biotechnology was founded in 2003 at the University of Bayreuth by Prof. Dr. Ruth Freitag, and engages in research regarding technical biotechnology, cellular biotechnology and environmental and energy research. Interdisciplinarity is highly valued at the chair, and is represented in current research on microplastics and artificial biofilms  

The chair is a member of the Bayreuth Center for Molecular Biosciences (BZMB) as well as the Center of Energy Technology (ZET). The research departments Cellular Biotechnology and Environment & Energy participate in the Collaborative Research Centre 1357 “Microplastics”.
